Low Beta Stocks (Beta Under 1)

Beta measures how much a share has moved relative to the market as a whole. A beta below 1 means the stock has historically been less volatile than the index — it has tended to fall less in declines and rise less in rallies. This screen lists US-listed companies with a beta under 1, which in practice draws heavily on utilities, consumer staples and established healthcare.

Screening criteria

  • Beta below 1.0
  • Listed on NASDAQ, NYSE or AMEX
  • Ordinary shares only — no funds or ETFs
  • No restriction on price, sector or market capitalisation

What this screen does not tell you

Beta is backward-looking. It describes how a share behaved against the market over a past window and carries no guarantee about the next one, and it says nothing at all about whether a business is sound. A low beta is a statement about volatility, not about risk of loss.

Note

A screen is a filter, not a recommendation. Nothing here accounts for your circumstances, and inclusion is not a view on any company. See our methodology for where this data comes from.
